$10 million revised bus priority project for Baulkham Hills

The NSW Government is proceeding with a $10 million revised bus priority project at Baulkham Hills that will minimise bus delays and improve traffic flow.

As a result of input from the community and The Hills Shire Council during community information displays, the RTA has revised its proposal for road changes. The revised project will benefit bus commuters, motorists and residents – and retain parking in front of businesses near Raemont Lane for most of the day.

Scheduled works

  • Narrowing the central median to create a third southbound general traffic lane in Windsor Road from 125 metres north of Cook Street to the M2 Motorway on-ramp.
  • Creating a 24-hour southbound bus lane that would operate in most of the section of Old Northern Road extending from just north of Olive Street to Windsor Road.
  • Providing a short section of bus lane that would operate initially in the morning traffic peak Monday to Friday in front of businesses located between Raemont Lane and Windsor Road (outside the morning peak, 10 car parking spaces in front of the businesses would be retained).
  • Re-configuring parking spaces in the car park at the corner of Windsor Road and Railway Street.
  • Providing left turn access into Railway Street from Windsor Road (left turns out of Railway Street  into Windsor Road will no longer be possible for safety reasons).
  • Widening Raemont Lane to improve two-way traffic access to compensate for the partial closure of the southern end of Railway Street.

The RTA will work closely with The Hills Shire Council and other stakeholders to continue to refine the project.

A traffic control plan will be developed to minimise impacts on businesses in the shopping strip located in Old Northern Road between Raemont Lane and Windsor Road.

A landscape plan is to be developed for George Suttor Park.

Works Scheduled completion
Creating a third southbound traffic lane along Windsor Road from north of Cook Street to the M2 Motorway on-ramp. February 2007
Old Northern Road bus lane. First half of 2009

Traffic changes on Windsor Road at Railway Street, Baulkham Hills from 24 February 2009

The RTA will be changing traffic conditions at the above intersection to ‘left in only’ into Railway Street from, Windsor Road as part of the Old Northern Road bus priority project at Baulkham Hills.

From 24 February 2009 left turns out of Railway Street into Windsor Road will not be possible for safety reasons.

To compensate for this partial closure of the southern end of Railway Street, Raemont Lane is currently being widened to improve two-way traffic access.  This work will be completed before access to Railway Street is restricted.

Temporary barriers will be in place on 24 February 2009 that will prevent left turns out of Railway Street into Windsor Road.  The permanent arrangement for Railway Street will take approximately one month to construct, weather permitting.

There may be some minor disruptions in the area while the work is underway.  The RTA apologises for any inconvenience during this work and appreciates the patience of residents, businesses and motorists.
