A contract for $58.5 million has now been awarded to BMD Constructions Pty Ltd to construct the Oxley Highway upgrade between Wrights Road and the Pacific Highway.
The NSW Government has allocated $25 million in the 2009-10 budget to continue construction on the full length of the Oxley Highway with further funding in the following years.
The project
The NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is managing this upgrade of a six kilometre section of the Oxley Highway to dual carriageway from Wrights Road to the Pacific Highway, west of Port Macquarie. The upgrade will cross Lindfield Park Road before passing over the existing Oxley Highway just west of Phillip Charley Drive and rejoin the existing highway at the roundabout near the Pacific Highway.
The upgrade will improve road safety and provide shorter travel times for motorists travelling from Wauchope and surrounding areas into Port Macquarie. The new highway will also provide access points to intersecting roads at two locations along the project.
Preliminary works on the Wrights Road roundabout and the cross-over bridge near Phillip Charley Drive at Lindfield Park have recently been completed in time for the full dual carriageway contract to commence.
Construction activities
Construction is expected to commence on site in early December this year. The contractor intends to commence with drainage works and earthworks at the eastern end and establishment of a site compound near Lindfield Park Road.
These works will have minimal impact on current traffic flows.
The fully completed project is expected to be open to traffic in 2011.
