The Victoria Road project is a key part of the NSW Government’s Urban Transport Statement and is designed to improve bus efficiency and reliability one of Sydney’s busiest bus corridors.
An RTA spokesperson said the consultation period for the Victoria Road project has been extended to Monday 3 March to give the public more time to look at the proposal and provide their feedback.
“It is important that bus commuters have input on the project because the main aim of the upgrade is to improve bus travel times for the 200,000 bus commuters who travel on Victoria Road each week.
“The longer consultation period means three additional information sessions will be held in February to give people an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments.
“We have already received a number of submissions since the proposal went on display in December, however there is still plenty of time for people to have their say before submissions close.
“Comments from the community will help determine the preferred design for the upgrade of Victoria Road and duplication of Iron Cove Bridge.
“At this stage it is especially important we hear comments from bus commuters given that a key aim of the project is to improve Victoria Road bus services.
A community newsletter outlining the design options was delivered to 23,000 residents last year. Information is also on display at Leichhardt, Drummoyne, Five Dock, Rozelle and Ryde.
The Victoria Road project includes two potential options for the new Iron Cove Bridge – one to each side of the existing bridge.
Preliminary RTA investigations suggest that, subject to further investigation and community consultation, a bridge to the west would have less impact and more benefits than a bridge to the east.
The project also proposes a new tidal flow traffic scheme, the introduction of a new citybound bus lane in peak times and new pedestrian and cyclist facilities across Iron Cove connecting with the “Bay Run”.
The proposal will be on display until Monday 3 March 2008 at:
