An RTA spokesperson said the State Government had provided $100,000 to improve safety and traffic flow.
“The work will include the installation of a painted median for the full length of The Esplanade between King Street and Warners Bay Road to separate northbound and southbound traffic and restrict right turning movements along this length of road,” the spokesperson said.
“Turning movements at the foreshore car parks along The Esplanade will be restricted to left-in and left-out only with the installation of concrete medians.
“The work will result in a reduction in traffic conflicts between right-turning vehicles and through traffic along the length of the road.
“The RTA will distribute a letterbox drop to local businesses and residents next week seeking their comment on the proposal for the upgrade,” the spokesperson said.
Construction is scheduled to start in April 2008 (subject to weather).
