Restoration of Gee Gee Bridge starts

17-04-2008

Restoration work on the Gee Gee Bridge over the Wakool River, approximately 48km to the north west of Barham (38km east of Swan Hill), is scheduled to start this month (April 2008).

The NSW Government has committed $250,000 to repaint and repair this historic Dare truss bridge, an RTA spokesperson said.

Built in 1929, the Gee Gee Bridge is located on the Moulamein – Murrabit Road.

The Bridge will undergo essential restoration work to ensure it remains in good working condition.

The work involves the replacement of bridge components, including truss members and cross girders, as well as repainting.

Preliminary site work is already underway, with major work scheduled to start in late April.

Work will take place between 7am and 5pm, Mondays to Fridays until October 2008, weather permitting.  On occasions, work may occur on Saturdays.

From Wednesday 23 April, a width restriction of 4.2 metres will apply on the bridge until August.

A reduced speed limit of 20kmh will also apply at all times when the width restriction is in place.

Controllers will be on site to direct traffic when required, and in the interests of safety motorists are asked to follow all temporary signs on and leading up to the bridge.
