The RTA is inviting members of the community to participate in interactive workshops which will look at issues affecting the various options for the highway upgrade.
“The workshops have been designed so that everyone can be involved in identifying potential constraints, and to start the important work of understanding the values the community holds for particular issues or places,” an RTA spokesperson said.
“A highway upgrade would improve road safety and boost freight efficiency”.
The spokesperson said initial community meetings and information displays were held in June at Hartley, Mount Victoria, Lithgow and Hartley Vale.
“In response to community feedback, the RTA has hired a transport planner to investigate an alternative route on the Newnes Plateau, in addition to the study area shown at the initial information displays.
“An environmental assessment is studying flora and fauna, as well as geotechnical and engineering features and cultural and heritage issues,” the spokesperson said.
“A more detailed environmental assessment will be carried out once a preferred route has been identified.”
The following workshops will be held:
Tuesday 12 August 6pm to 8.30pm, Mount Victoria Public School, Great Western Highway, Mount Victoria.
Wednesday 13 August 1pm to 3.30pm Hartley School building, corner of Mid Hartley Road and Great Western Highway, Hartley.
