An RTA spokesperson said the RTA provides the free service all year for the local community to cross the Murray River.
“The successful contractor will manage and operate the ferry service on a daily basis,” the spokesperson said.
“Applicants do not need to hold a ferry license as all training is provided by the RTA. However, the contractor will provide basic mechanical servicing of the ferry.
“A strong commitment to health and safety, environmental standards and high-level customer service is expected.”
As part of the contract the RTA will:
- Be responsible for providing the ferry and infrastructure
- Carry out complex maintenance on the ferry
- Insure the ferry and its operation.
Tenders for the contract will be open for the next three weeks. Interested businesses should visit the RTA website for more information.
The contract is expected to start in June 2009 for a period of 18 months with provision for extension.
