NSW Government support for flood affected areas

25-05-2009

Minister for Roads Michael Daley today said the NSW Government would help restore roads and support residents in areas damaged by flooding on the NSW North Coast.

Mr Daley said the RTA would waive fees and provide special proof of identity arrangements for residents whose documentation has been lost, damaged or destroyed during the floods.

“If you live in a declared natural disaster area, we’ll do all we can to replace your licence, vehicle registration documents, photo identification and mobility parking scheme cards as quickly as possible.

“If you have no proof of identity and no photo stored with the RTA, you will be issued with an interim licence,” Mr Daley said.

Mr Daley said that the following transactions will be processed at no fee for flood victims:
re-issuing of number plates;

  • replacement of registration certificates and labels;
  • replacement of driver licences and NSW photo cards; and -
  • replacement of Mobility Parking Scheme cards.

“Registration will also be reinstated at no charge for customers whose vehicles are insured for flood damage or write offs.

“I urge locals to contact the RTA call centre on 132 213 for all the relevant flood assistance information,” he said.

Mr Daley also said the NSW Government would provide funding to local councils in declared disaster zones to help repair damaged roads.

“The State Government is focused on getting life on the North Coast back to normal as quickly as possible and rebuilding damaged roads is a very important part of that process,” he said.

“This funding will help restore flood-damaged roads back to their original condition.

“The RTA will also inspect all state roads in flood-affected areas to make sure they are still safe for motorists,” Mr Daley said.

People planning to drive near flood affected areas are advised to visit the RTA's online traffic information on flood affected areas or to contact the RTA on 132 701.
