Road signs

The RTA welcomes visitors to Sydney and the State of New South Wales. Sydney is Australia's largest city with a population of nearly 4 million, which is about 20% of Australia's total population.

Federally, Australia comprises six states and two internal territories. Most of Australia's road rules are the same in all States and Territories.

Whether you only visit Sydney, or take the opportunity to drive a car to see some of Australia's many other interesting and exciting places, the information on these pages will assist you to move about more safely on our roads as either a driver, passenger or pedestrian.

The Roads and Traffic Authority wishes you a safe and enjoyable stay in Australia.
