The NSW Government introduced the M4/M5 Cashback Scheme on 1 January 1997. Cashback allows NSW residents to claim back the value of tolls (excluding GST) paid while using privately registered vehicles on the M4 and M5 motorways.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Cashback you must be a resident of NSW and claim only those trips made in a vehicle registered in NSW that has a private usage shown on its registration papers, for example, 'private general', 'charitable' or 'pensioner'. Trips made using business registered vehicles, including those supplied as part of a remuneration package, are not eligible for Cashback. Effective from and including 1 March 2009, claims must be lodged with the RTA within 12 months of the close of each Cashback quarter. Claims received more than 12 months after the close of each quarter will not be accepted.
Joining the Cashback Scheme
To participate in Cashback you need to open an electronic tolling account, register for Cashback and pay your M4 and M5 tolls using an electronic tag.
You can open an RTA E-Toll account, or alternatively, join one of the following account providers that also participate in Cashback:

If you join the Cashback Scheme, your vehicle may be photographed at the M4 and M5 toll plazas for audit purposes.
Claiming Cashback
Your account provider will generate transaction statements showing your tollway usage. You claim Cashback by sending the transaction statements and a claim form to the RTA.
The RTA accepts claims on a quarterly basis.
Your account provider will arrange access to claim forms and transaction listings for you. Account providers offer their customers a number of alternatives of how they receive these documents. You may receive yours by post or take the option of downloading them from a web site. Providers also operate different quarterly cycles.
Your chosen provider can explain the options available to you and tell you when to claim.
Payment of rebates
Payment is by cheque or bank account direct credit. If you want your rebate paid into a bank account, you must send the RTA a completed request form. The form is available from this web site.
What roads does Cashback cover?
Rebates are available for trips on the M4 and M5 only.
Can I include cash receipts with my claim?
No. You can only claim tolls paid electronically using a tollway account.
