Time of day tolling came into effect on the Sydney Harbour crossings on Tuesday, 27 January 2009.
The move aims to help ease traffic congestion on the busy corridor and to encourage motorists to travel outside peak hours where possible.
Time of day tolling charges are as follows:
Weekdays
Motorists can consider one of three options during time of day tolling - adjusting the time of their trip, paying the appropriate toll or changing their route.
The introduction of time of day tolling is the first time the toll has been increased on the Harbour Bridge since 2002 but only motorists travelling from 6.30am to 9.30am and from 4pm to 7pm on weekdays will face an increased toll.
Time of day tolling is expected to raise around $12 million a year which will be reinvested into buying and running 300 new buses.
Peak volume traffic figures
Motorists have adapted well to the changes and traffic volumes reflect a marked increase in people travelling before the peak period, with numbers falling again during the peak period between 6.30am and 9.30am on all crossings, including the Ryde and Gladesville bridges, when compared to the same time last year.
The RTA will continue to monitor traffic volumes on the four crossings in coming days and weeks.
